Looking for race volunteers

Organizers are looking for volunteers to help with the Escape from Prison Hill Run at 7 a.m. April 25.

Training will be available on

- Race Day Registration

- Finish line/Race Results

- Aide Station Volunteer

- Course Marking and Cleanup

- Race Day Set Up and Take Down

Two group runs planned for Saturday

Fleet Feet will be hosting two group runs Saturday at 9 a.m. starting from Carson Middle School.

One will be a rolling three miles out and back on the fire break in front of C Hill.

The other will be a moderate to difficult 10K around C Hill.

A night for divas at Fleet Feet Sports

Fleet Feet Sports, 3246 N. Carson St., Suite 121, is hosting a women's health and fitness event 5-8 p.m. today.

It will feature experts who will discuss the benefits of physical therapy, feeling great with skin and hair care, sports bra fittings, women and nutrition, the importance of mammogram screenings, fitness shoe fittings, inner beauty captured on camera, beautiful legs without unsightly veins, life without makeup, fitness and time for romance.

Appetizers, dessert and wine will be provided by Brugo's Pizza, plus more than $50 in raffle prizes will be given away.

Diamond Peak Dummy Downhill

March 29 is a day of dummies at Diamond Peak. In the Dummy Downhill participants build a dummy on skis or snowboards that gets launched off of a big jump.

Entrants receive a free commemorative T-shirt and day lift ticket (limit 2 per dummy). There are no registration fees. Dummies need to be at the base lodge by 11 a.m. to be judged on creativity. Jumping begins at noon and an award ceremony follows.

Dummies can not be live and must not weigh more than 75 pounds. Dummies that lose parts as they crash must be cleaned up by the team.

Categories include Best Crash, Longest Jump, Most Creative, and more. Prizes include Big Water Grille gift certificates, Crosby's lunch gift certificates and prizes from Village Ski Loft.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northern Nevada can receive a free ski day compliments of Diamond Peak on that day.

Annual Uphill Race at Diamond Peak

The third annual Uphill Race is March 28 at Diamond Peak. Entrants go up to the Snowflake Lodge under their own power " skis with skins or snowshoes "and ski or ride down from Snowflake Lodge. Skis, snowboards, telemark skis, or split boards are all acceptable.

The opposite of the famous Last Tracks, this First Tracks Uphill Race challenges people interested in going up the mountain self-propelled. Enjoy breakfast and award ceremony at Snowflake Lodge before the mountain opens.

The race starts at 8 a.m. Prizes will be provided for best time (male and female) plus a raffle for participants. The cost is $10, which includes a T-shirt.

Winter biathlon in Mammoth Lakes

Mammoth Mountain Biathlon will be 10 a.m. March 28 at the Tamarack XC Center. This challenging and fun course is designed by Olympian Nancy Fiddler and Tamarack XC Director Ueli Luthi.

The Mammoth Mountain Biathlon is scheduled in conjunction with the Tamarack Tour de Taste Gourmet Food, the XC Ski Festival, and the International Ski History Congress academic conference.

Winter biathlon combines the athletic disciplines of cross country skiing and marksmanship. The .22 caliber biathlon rifles, ammunition, and Olympic grade targets will be provided.

The race is designed for both the beginner and experienced biathlete.

Get ready to 'Run Amuck' in Reno

The second annual Run Amuck fun run is coming May 9 at the Reno River Festival.

Participants get down and dirty, literally, while crawling through a 60-foot-long mud pit and traversing a variety of other "mystery obstacles" during this costumed 2.5-mile, two-person relay race from downtown Reno's Wingfield Park to Idlewild Park and back.

The ruckus begins at 1 p.m. with the costume contest and the race starting at 2 p.m.

Participants are invited to the official Reno River Festival Kick-Off Party at West Street Market the night prior to pick up race day packets and goodie bags. Registration is $50 per two-person team and includes entry into the costume contest.

CPR and First Aid Certification training

The Tahoe Rim Trail Association, in partnership with the American Red Cross, will be offering a CPR/First Aid certification course on March 28.

The course will begin at 9 a.m. in the D.W.R. nonprofit building in Incline Village, and will last until around 3 p.m.

Additionally, the TRTA would like to recruit volunteers. CPR and First Aid certification is required for all volunteer guides, hike leaders, ambassadors and crew leaders.

The cost is $45, which includes instruction, a one year certification, and educational materials.

Fourth winter race in series coming up

The race expected to the be the fastest and probably muddiest yet in Fleet Feet's Winter Race Series will be 8 a.m. March 28 at the boat ramp on Carson River Road.

Go just past the entrance to the Silver Saddle Ranch to the bridge that crosses the Carson River.

There will be no race day registration. Pick up a bib number at the store before race day and pay the $15 entry fee.

Plunging in Tahoe for Special Olympics

Polar Plunge 2009 to benefit Special Olympics Northern California and Nevada will be 10 a.m.- 1 p.m. Saturday at the Zephyr Cove Marina in South Lake Tahoe.

For $100 in pledges, plunge participants take a quick dip in the chilly waters of South Lake Tahoe.

Anyone can participate but those 17 years old and younger are required to have a parent or guardian signature.
