Night bike riding in Ash Canyon

Night riding season is here.

Due to work schedules, some mountain bikers either ride at night or don't ride at all. So, if you would like to be a part of the former, come on out and join a good group of riders for some post-work pedaling.

The rides will meet every Tuesday and Thursday (the exception is Thanksgiving, unless there is interest) at Foothill Drive and Winnie Lane at 6:30 p.m.

Barring severe weather conditions, the rides will continue, but check the blog just in case.

Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving

Why not combine fitness and feasting on Thanksgiv-ing?

The Carson City Pinkerton Ballet Theatre is putting on a Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning to support its annual production of "The Nutcracker."

This is a 5K and 1-mile fun run for kids. Both races will begin at Fleet Feet, 3246 N. Carson St. The kids race begins at 8:30, the 5K begins at 9 a.m.

Compete in triathlon at your own pace

Think you don't have what it takes to finish a triathlon? Think again.

The Carson Aquatic Facility's self-paced triathlon is back.

Keep your exercise program on track through the holiday season and accomplish something you never thought you could.

How does a self-paced triathlon work? Like a regular triathlon, this individualized version involves three disciplines of exercise: swimming, biking and running.

Participants choose the distances they would like to enter based on their own schedules, strengths, goals and fitness level, and then have a full 40 days to accomplish that goal.

The triathlon will run Nov. 23-Jan. 3. Categories offer a range of distance requirements to suit everyone's needs and abilities.

Participants who reach their goal will receive a triathlon T-shirt. The cost for this event is $15 per person.

Junior ski/snowboard registrations start

Winter is coming. Kids, get ready to hit the slopes. The Carson City Recreation Division is launching its 53rd Annual Junior Ski/Snowboard Program.

Registration will be 9 a.m.-noon Saturday and Dec. 12 in the lobby of the Carson City Community Center. The program is available to all children ages 9 to 15 years old.

The program offers the following:

• Six Sundays of fun on the slopes

• Ski or Snowboard instruction (all ability levels)

• A no-restrictions season pass to Diamond Peak

The cost for the program is $305 with transportation included, and $190 without. Equipment is not included in either package.

Wanted: Volunteer ski/snowboard instructors

The Carson City Recreation Division is looking for volunteer ski and snowboard instructors for the 2010 Junior Ski/Snowboard Program.

Volunteers must be 18 years or older and must be committed to teaching and/or chaperoning for six Sundays beginning in January.

Free lift tickets for afternoon skiing/snowboarding will be provided.

Ski swap at Tahoe Cross Country

The 10th annual Tahoe Cross-Country Ski Swap is 10 a.m. Saturday.

It's the place to buy and sell gear for skate skiing, classic, snowshoeing, telemark, backcountry and more.

Admission is free.

There will be a raffle at noon for a season pass and other great prizes. Tickets will be on sale today and Saturday at Tahoe XC.

Register your sale items from 2-9 p.m. today.

Volunteers are needed.
