Open burn permits at fire departments
The Carson City Fire Department will allow open burning, Saturday, March 28 through Sunday, April 26. The purpose of the open burn period is to provide residents an opportunity to dispose of accumulated weeds and yard debris. The Fire Department requires a burn permit with a valid permit number before burning is allowed. Permit applications can be obtained starting Monday, March 23 at the following locations: Station 1 Headquarters,
8 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday through Friday, 777 S. Stewart St.; Station 2, 8 a.m.-8 p.m., 2400 College Parkway; and Station 3, 8 a.m.-
8 p.m., 4649 Snyder Ave. when personnel are present subject to emergency response. For information, call 887-2220 ext. 1001.
Anthology of Nevada to be presented
Frances Humphrey Lecture series: "Literary Nevada: Writings from the Silver State," 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 24, at the Nevada State Museum, 600 N. Carson St. Discover Nevada's fascinating literary heritage with Cheryll Glotfelty, editor of the first comprehensive literary anthology of Nevada, and Associate Professor of English at the University of Nevada, Reno. Local poet to speak at Carson Library
Carson City Library will host Minden author Craig Downer,
6 p.m., Wednesday, March 25 in the library's auditorium, 900 N. Roop St. Downer's book of poetry "Streams of the Soul" speaks to the heart and soul of life. Downer is a dedicated ecologist and writer whose mystic quest for truth has taken him all over the world. For information, call 887-2244.
