Art in Croatia to be presented at library

"The View from Kvarner Bay: Art in Croatia" will be presented 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 1 at the Carson City Library, 900 N. Roop St. A reception for the artist, Nadija Mustapic will be at 6 p.m. This is an ongoing series of illustrated public talks hosted by the Capital City Arts Initiative. Registration starts at Bethlehem Lutheran

Registration for Bethlehem Lutheran School will be 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m., Monday-Friday through March 31. Bethlehem Lutheran offers three-year old preschool through 8th grade. The school is located at 1837 Mountain St. For information, visit blcs.org or call 882-5252.

Open burn permits available at fire dept.

The Carson City Fire Department will allow open burning, Saturday, March 28 through Sunday, April 26. The purposed of the open burn period is to provide residents an opportunity to dispose of accumulated yard debris. The Fire Department requires a burn permit with a valid permit number before burning will be allowed. Permit applications can be obtained starting today at the following locations: Station 1 Headquarters, 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday through Friday, 777 S. Stewart St.; Station 2, 8 a.m.-8 p.m., 2400 College Parkway; and Station 3, 8 a.m.-8 p.m., 4649 Snyder Ave. when personnel are present subject to emergency response. Step into Spring to provide shoes for kids

It's time for this year's shoe drive for Carson City School District Students. "Step Into Spring" will provide shoes to children in need. This year, selected students will be provided the opportunity to shop for their own shoes, in an effort to promote autonomy and positive self-esteem. Under the supervision of the school district's coordinator, Jeannette Famoso, the children will be fitted for appropriate shoes by trained sales associates at Big 5 Sporting Goods. Funding of this program will be based on donations from charitable organizations and our faith based community. For information, call 283-1526 or 690-1303.

WNC offers financial aid assistance

Western Nevada College offers financial aid application assistance 5:30-7 p.m., Thursday, March 26 in the Cedar Building, Room 331B. Information required to prove eligibility: Social Security Number and driver's license, 2008 W-2 Forms and other records of money earned, a copy of 2008 Federal Income Tax form, including spouse's form if married, information regarding untaxed income, such as veterans' benefits, child support and workers' compensation, copies of current bank statements. For those who are dependents, a copy of parents' 2008 Federal Income Tax Form is required. Those who are not U.S. citizens need to show alien registration status or a permanent resident card.
