Nevada Appeal Staff Report

The Carson Bulldog Wrestling Club had a good showing at the USA Nevada State Wrestling Tournament, which was held in Winnemucca over the weekend.

About 500 wrestlers from across the state, ages 5-18 years old, participated in the three-day tournament in up to three different styles: Greco, freestyle and folkstyle.

Ricky McDonald, a 15-year-old from Bishop Manogue High School, was the only wrestler to take first place. The son of the club's coach, Bob McDonald, took the 160-pound title in the freestyle competition. He also took second in folkstyle.

Kaleb Wold,12, who wrestles in the 70-pound class, took second in all three styles, while Nico Garcia, a freshman at Carson High, also took second in all three styles in the 145-pound class.

His younger brother, AC, took fourth in Greco.

Other finishers include: Nicholas Lani, third in Greco, second in freestyle and folkstyle; Cole McCarthy, second in both freestyle and folkstyle; Brady O'Keefe, second in Greco, third in freestyle and fourth in folkstyle; Kyle Sharp, second in Greco, third in folkstyle and fifth in freestyle; Sullivan Cauley, second in freestyle and third in folkstyle; Brady Rivera, second in Greco, fifth in both freestyle and folkstyle and Tristian Bakkedahl, fourth in folkstyle, fifth in freestyle and sixth in Greco.

The Reno Bighorns will host a Carson City night March 28 when the team plays the Idaho Stampede. For just $44 you get four endzone tickets and four hotdogs, chips and sodas.

The Bighorns are 19-23 in their first season in the NBA Development League and have just six more home games before the end of the regular season.

Some players of note are former North Carolina player David Noel, former Syracuse guard Gerry McNamara and Patrick Ewing Jr., son of the Hall of Famer by the same name.

Thunder Canyon Country Club in Washoe Valley will hold a golf tournament to support Safe Grad, an event sponsored by the Carson High School PTSA on graduation night to give graduates a safe and sober place to ring in their final chapter of high school. The event was started as a community response to a series of alcohol-related accidents and has been running for 19 years.

There will be racers apprecation day April 11 at the Carson Mall's west parking lot. All racers, gas or pedal, are invited to show their rides from 9 a.m. to noon for free. The event is also free to the public to attend.
