Man sentenced in slaying, standoff at Vegas hotel

LAS VEGAS (AP) " A 25-year-old man was sentenced to 28 years to life in state prison for killing a tourist from Reno and holding police at bay for six hours at a Las Vegas Strip hotel in 2006.

Curtis Billy Bonilla's sentencing Wednesday came after he pleaded guity to six felony charges in the slaying of 43-year-old Philip Anthony McElreath and the standoff with police at Harrah's hotel-casino.

The seige ended spectacularly when SWAT team members blasted out an exterior window of a 20th-floor room and fired pepper spray gas inside.

Bonilla avoided trial with his guilty pleas before Clark County District Court Judge Donald Mosley to charges of murder, attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon.
