Carson City

Roop Street to close

Roop Street at the intersection of Corbett Street will be completely closed 6:30 a.m.-7 p.m., Saturday, March 28 for utility work. Northbound and southbound lanes will be closed. The city will provide signed detours, but recommends alternate routes. The work is part of the North Stewart Street extension.

Elks to install Lodge Officers

Carson City Lodge No. 2177 of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks will install Lodge Officers for 2009-2010, 1 p.m., Saturday, March 28, 515 N. Nevada St. The public is invited to attend and meet incoming Exalted Ruler, Ken Smith. For information, call 884-4109.

Police academy cadets to practice

Police academy cadets at Western Nevada College will be practicing their patrol skills after 10 a.m. this weekend on the Carson City campus, as part of their regular training. The students will drive cars around the campus using lights and sirens, but the college will try to minimize disruption to neighbors. To maintain the integrity of emergency training, lights and sirens must be used in making car stops. For information, call 445-3235.

Purchase your raffle ticket to win your choice of a 2009 Toyota Corolla or 2009 Ford Focus to benefit the Carson Tahoe Cancer Center. Horsemen offer training clinic

Back Country Horsemen of Nevada, Carson Valley Chapter hosts a "Hank Curry" Horse Training Clinic, 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m., Saturday, April 4, Douglas County Fairgrounds, Pinenut Road. Hank Curry is the head trainer at the Warm Springs Correctional Center's Training facility. Barbecue lunch will be sold for a nominal fee " $15 before April 1; $20 at the gate. Group hosts spring tea, fashion show

St. Gall Women's Society hosts their Spring Tea and Fashion Show, 1 p.m., Saturday, April 18, Pastoral Center, 1343 Centerville Lane, Gardnerville. Enjoy a champagne reception and afternoon tea with a sampling of mini-sandwiches and desserts. The tea will feature fashions from Side Street Boutique, Especially for You and Ruby Rose Cowgirl Clothes along with door prizes, silent auction and raffle. Tickets are $25 per person.
