Obituary: Dirk C. Spencer

Dirk C. Spencer, 73, passed away at his home in Carson City, March 29, 2009. He was born March 20, 1936 to Cecil F. and Helen F. Spencer in Huntington, N.Y.

He lived in Carson City for the past 30 years. He graduated from Boise State University and Butte Community College. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Dolgeville, N.Y., and the Scottish Rite Manila Bodies. He served in the U.S. Air Force, for 22 years retiring in 1976. He was Chief Building Inspector for the State of Nevada retiring in 1999. Dirk enjoyed many hobbies including fishing, hunting and hand-loading.

He was preceded in death by his first wife Joan, daughter Nancy, brothers Gary and Allen, and his parents.

Among his survivors are his wife Dona; son Dirk Jr. and wife Joyce; son Daniel; stepchildren Gordon, Karen, Michelle; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Dirk will be missed by all with his sharp wit and commonsense advice.

A graveside service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 7 at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Fernley with full military honors. Donations to Friends of the Nevada State Museum, 600 North Carson Street, Carson City, Nevada 89701
