Thanks for sending cookies to troops
Carson City - you are an awesome community that supports our Military and we want to thank you. With the money you donated to Girl Scout Troops 553 and 168 during Girl Scout Cookie Sales, the girls were able to purchase 1,638 boxes of Girl Scout cookies. Those cookies were shipped to Nevada soldiers serving in Afghanistan and Iraq. An additional $595 went toward shipping all those cookies.
Thank you Carson City.

Broadway too far for a daily commute
Friday night I had the honor of attending Wildhorse Children's Theater's production of "Beauty and the Beast Jr." I suspect the only reason it did not open on Broadway was the 3,000-plus miles each child would have to commute each day to school.
It was fantastic and a must-see by this community. Kudos to: Jeff Scott, production manager and set designer, Carol Scott, director, Alan Catron, music director, Robin Kato, choreographer, Pat Josten, producer and the costume designer, Lynne Libby.
But the children deserve rave reviews. The acting was superb, the singing sublime and the production seamless. The tech support and parent volunteer was perfect. I am probably a tad biased (the baker deserves an Oscar) but we are so blessed to have this group of dedicated adults willing to take their time and bundles of energy to work with the children of this community.
We are blessed. Please, make the effort to see the show (May 8, 7 p.m., and May 9, 4 p.m.). You will not be sorry.

Bravo for children's play production
After watching the performance of "Beauty and the Beast Jr." by the Wildhorse Children's Theater at the Children's Museum this past weekend, I was extremely impressed with the incredible, professional performance that these very talented children treated a full-house audience to.
The set was unbelievable, the costumes were fantastic and the children did an absolutely amazing job. My husband had expected a "children's theater" performance and commented afterward on how impressed he was by the professionalism of the show. It's definitely a must-see.

Memorable encounter in Virginia City
On a recent visit to Virginia City, I visited the "Sundance," one of the inviting shops on C Street. What started out to be a routine outing in VC turned into a memorable encounter with honesty.
I bought a couple of post cards at the "Sundance" and then wandered back onto C Street. Sunshine owner Susan Lewis had been all smiles and assured me and my friend, her only customers at the time, that it was a "very good day." Some time later, while window shopping along the boardwalk, the Sundance owner stopped me and said to return to her shop because I had dropped money on the floor. Sure enough, while fishing in my pocket for change to make my small purchase, a $10 bill made its way out of my pocket onto the floor of the Sunshine.
Owner Susan Lewis made me remember that the basic fiber of our country remains ethical and honest and that Virginia City remains a very special place. Economic times are tough, but the basic fiber of Virginia City is tougher. Thank you, Susan Lewis.
