Wild Horse Children's Theater has announced the Kyra Conway Scholarship Fund. The group will be accepting donations in Kyra's memory to allow children to experience the live theater through productions, classes and workshops.

Kyra, who died earlier this month at age 11 from complications of the flu, was a member of Wild Horse Children's Theater and had participated in the performing arts in the community since she was 4 years old.

Donations should be directed to Wells Fargo Account No. 8045513762 (Wild Horse Productions, Inc.) or mail donations to Wild Horse Children's Theater, 2101 Mountain St., Carson City, NV 89703.

Ask the bank to note your name and Kyra Conway Scholarship Fund on your deposit so that the family can thank you. Call 887-0438.

The Sierra landscape, and the Lake Tahoe Basin in particular, attracts its fair share of camera crews.

The most recent big screen production in North Lake Tahoe was "The Deep End" in 2001, which won an award for Best Cinematography at the Sundance Film Festival.

"More than 30 film permits are handed out each year in Placer County and about a third of those projects are shot in Tahoe," said Beverly Lewis from the Placer-Lake Tahoe Film Office.

Lewis most recently assisted on an aerial shot for the upcoming movie "Into the Wild" that was written and directed by Sean Penn.

"From what I understand he was very specific about the accuracy of the shot he needed, which happened to be of the main character hiking through the Sierra Nevada," Lewis said.

Commercials, meanwhile, bring the destination into American living rooms throughout the year. The area's scenic roads can be seen in Toyota, Volkswagen and Dodge/Chrysler commercials, which recently shot all its mountain shots at Lake Tahoe.
