Opium smoking. A gentleman occupying a prominent position in the Mint observed a young man and woman along the railroad tracks in Chinatown acting very strangely. He watched them for a few moments, when he suddenly saw them disappear into what looked like an opium den. He looked for an officer to give the information to, but his search was in vain. It appears that even the great penalty attached to opium smoking will not deter the white habitue from satisfying his fearful appetite.

All sorts: An Italian from Empire showed up at Dr. Guinan's office with a face that needed fixing. He had been thrown from a horse and plowed up considerable ground.

Tahoe City. The large amphibian plane owned by George Whittell is reported down in the lake. No person was hurt " Whittell was not aboard. Cost of the ship $75,000.

Postmaster General William J. Henderson approved the $7.5 million project to relocate the Post Office from 311 Washington Street to Little Lane and Roop Street.
