The Bureau of Land Management, Carson City District, will conduct a small prescribed burn on Thursday in Alpine County, Calif., which may bring smoke into the Capitol city.

The 24-acre burn is on BLM administered lands directly south of Turtle Rock County Park, adjacent to California State Route 89 between Woodfords and Markleeville.

The prescribed fire is part of an ongoing fuels treatment effort on BLM

administered lands in Alpine County to reduce the threat of wildfire damage to homes, private property and developed recreation sites; reduce the threat of wildfire damage to natural resources; provide a safer area for fire fighters to conduct suppression operations; and improve timber stand health, vigor and resistance to fire, insects and disease.

Smoke may be noticeable from Markleeville, Woodfords and Minden/Gardnerville during ignition. The prescribed burn will be rescheduled if fuel and weather conditions are not within guidelines.
