McFadden named Realtor of the Quarter

Heidi McFadden (formerly Heidi Schneider) of Realty Executives Nevada's Choice was awarded Realtor of the Quarter by the Sierra Nevada Association of Realtors.

McFadden has been working with Realty Executives since 2001. She has been assisting Chick James, broker/owner, since 2002.

She is a volunteer with the Susan G. Komen Foundation and The Breast Cancer 3 Day. She also is active in the Carson City Active 20-30 Club which raises and distributes funds to underprivileged kids in Carson City.

McFadden is on the CAPS (Community Service, Affiliates & Programs) committee for the Sierra Nevada Association of Realtors and she is also the secretary on the board of directors.

Green building for building professionals

The Builders Association of Western Nevada is hosting a program on May 14 and 15 so builders can learn how green homes provide buyers with lower energy costs and higher value. This two-day course for building professionals discusses strategies for incorporating green-building principles into homes without driving up the cost of construction. You will learn how green homes provide buyers lower maintenance, better indoor air quality, and better long-term value.

Techniques also are discussed for competitively differentiating your home products with increased indoor environmental quality as well as energy and resource efficiency.

Fees for the class for BAWN members are $350, and $380 for non-members. Register for the class at www.bawn.org.

NNDA hosts customer service seminar

Northern Nevada Development Authority will host an event titled "For Big Dogs on the Little Things..." on May 20, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Carson Nugget.

The customer service seminar is for business and organizational leaders, and endorsed by Stephen R. Covey. Cost is $35 per person, and includes lunch, or $25 if you are a "powered by" member. Deadline to register is May 15. Call 434-3874 or go to NNDA.org for details.

Chamber mixer down on the ranch

The Carson City and Carson Valley chambers of commerce will host a joint mixer on May 20 at 5 p.m. at the R&K Ranch.

Wear cowboy duds, because there is a chance to ride a real horse. The ranch is located at 7177 Schulz Drive, in Carson City. Call 882-1565 for more details.

Applebee's closing and reopening

The Applebee's in Carson City will close for remodeling starting May 17, with a grand reopening scheduled for May 22. The restaurant will celebrate the event with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 11 a.m.

Carson builder wins awards

Shaheen Beauchamp Builders, a Carson City-based commercial general contracting company, was honored with awards for two recent projects at the fourth annual Summit Awards on April 25.

The recognition for Best Single Story Office Building was awarded for the Skin Cancer & Dermatology Institute adjacent to the Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center campus. The Best Retail Project - Non Anchored was awarded for the new Carson City Harley-Davidson dealership on Research Way. The Summit Awards are held annually by the local chapters of CCIM, CREW and NAIOP, and recognize the best of the best in commercial projects in Northern Nevada.

Carson City stimulus plan offers visitors a great deal

Visitors can eat, sleep and play for less in Carson City this summer thanks to a "New Deal" promotion, offering discounts that stretch visitors' budgets the right way.

Starting May 1, visitors can view the discounts online at the Carson City Convention & Visitors Bureau Web site, www.visitcarsoncity.com, and print the "Deals" they want to use. "New Deal" discounts are available through Sept. 7.
