EUGENE, Ore. " Thrower Constance McAlman, a Carson High graduate, was four inches from sole possession of sixth place in the hammer at the NCAA West Regionals narrowly missing automatically qualifying for the NCAA Championships. The top six in each event at the NCAA West Regionals hosted by Oregon at Hayward Field automatically qualify for the NCAA Championships next month in Arkansas.
McAlman threw 57.41m (188-04) to finish seventh overall. McAlman's throw was just off her hammer PR of 58.41m (191-08) at the UNLV Classic this year to open the
outdoor season. McAlman could still qualify for the NCAA Championships as an at-large selection.
Senior Christa Avena finished 10th in her heat and 20th overall in the 1,500m run with a time of 4:36.73. Avena will compete in the 3,000m steeplechase tomorrow night
with teammate Tiffany Tandy.
Analisa Serrano ran a 13.78 in the 100m hurdles to finish fourth in her heat and 14th overall in the prelims. Polly Smith took fourth in her heat and 15th in the 400m
hurdle prelims with a time of 1:01.62.
Nevada will continue competition at the NCAA West Regionals tomorrow. Two sport-stars (basketball/track and field) Nicole Williams will compete in the high jump while Marissa Hammond will compete in the javelin. Avena will run in the 3,000m steeplechase with teammate Tiffany Tandy.
