Col. Goetsch retires from Army

Col. David C. Goetsch has retired from the U.S. Army after 30 years of military service.

He received the Defense Superior Service Medal in a retirement ceremony at Scott Air Force Base, Ill.

Goetsch, son of David C. Goetsch of Minden, and Marilyn P. Von Kuhlberg of Upland, Calif., was chief of command communication strategy with the U.S. Transportation Command at Scott Air Force Base.

The colonel was previously assigned as the deputy chief of the Deployment Distribution Operations Center, also at Scott.

From April 2004 until his retirement, Goetsch operated transportation management over contingency deployment and redeployment, moving close to 850,000 passengers, more than 2,000 short tons of contingency and sustainment cargo, 4.5 billion pounds of fuel, and almost 11,000 patients.

He launched the first top-down, bottom-up Joint Mission Essential Task analysis since 2001. Goetsch also served as the interim United States Forces Korea liaison officer and was the command lead at the Korean Flag Shipping Conference.

The colonel shaped strategic readiness with the Air Force in the areas of C-5 and C-17 strategic lift mix and Operational Support Aircraft/Special Air Mission Command and Control.

Goetsch is a 1975 graduate of Upland High School, Calif. He earned a bachelor's degree in 1979 from Claremont McKenna College, Calif., and a master's degree in 1996 from Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion.

Schrauth graduates from basic infantry training in Army

Army Private Devan C. Schrauth has graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning, Ga. Schrauth is the son of Douglas Schrauth of Carson City. He is a 2008 graduate of Carson High School. During the nine weeks of training, he received instruction in drill and ceremonies, weapons, map reading, tactics, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid Army history, core values and traditions. Additional training included development of basic combat skills and battlefield operations and tactics, and experiencing use of various weapons and weapons defenses available to the infantry crewman.

Villanueva graduates from basic training in Air Force

Air Force Airman Rene W. Villanueva graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. He is the son of Cheryl Villanueva of Minden. He is a 2008 graduate of Douglas High School. The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.
