Sounds of western music and cowboy poetry filled Dayton Valley Floral & Nursery Saturday as performers regaled visitors with stories of Nevada's heritage.

Acclaimed poet Harold Roy Miller recited several of his works, poems with Nevada themes and contemporary subject matter.

She usually gives me a great big kiss,

Then says 'Honey, you're gonna hate me for this.'

I know then what's about to commence,

She is gonna ask me to move another fence!

Willis Lamm and Tom Zachry teamed up to sing several songs, with other musicians joining in. Lyon County Commission Larry McPherson served as emcee for the event, as well as doing a little singing himself.

"What makes this different than other kinds of music," Lamm told the crowd, "is it should tell a story you can visualize, and you should be able to visualize the words."

He then sang the title track from his "Hearts of Iron" album.

The Carson Valley, is full of people, homes and cars,

a Super Wal-Mart, big casino clubs and bars.

With people spreading everywhere the horses have to go.

How will future generations know?

The free monthly event is put on by the Lyon County Business Council.

"We're trying to spark some interest for this here in Lyon County," Lamm said. "Western music and cowboy poetry is really kind of a Nevada thing. We probably didn't create it, but a lot of the influence came from Nevada."
