September 26, 1925 - November 9, 2009

Dorothy Marie Newman, 84, a Dayton resident, passed away Nov. 9, 2009. Dorothy was preceded on her journey by her husband of 61 years, John R. Newman. They have three loving sons, Larry in San Jose, Calif., Stephen in Los Osos, Calif., and Doug in Carson City. Dorothy was a farm girl born in Iuka, Ill., and a proud grad of Salem Community High. Dorothy had five grandchildren: Jennifer and Stephen in Los Osos, her favorite Brandi in Livermore, Calif., and Fred and Jack in Martinez, Calif. Dorothy also had four great-grandchildren. Dorothy enjoyed reading romance novels, bowling, sewing and also a quick trip to the Nugget. Dorothy was loved and will be missed. Dorothy's favorite poem:

Just to say I'm living, that I'm

Not among the dead,

Tho' I'm getting so forgetful, and

More mixed up in the head.

For sometimes I can't remember, when

I stand at the foot of stairs,

If I must go up for something, or if

I just came down from there.

And, before the 'frig, so often, my

Poor mind fills with doubt --

Have I just put food away, or come

To take it out?

There are times when it is dark out,

My night cap's on my head,

I don't know if I'm retiring, or

Getting out of bed.

So, if it's my turn to write you,

There's no need of getting sore -

I think that I have written, and

Don't want to be a bore.

So remember, I do love you, and

Wish that you were here,

But now it's nearly mail time, I

Must say "Good-bye, my dear."

Then I stood beside the mail box

With face so very red --

Instead of mailing you my letter,

I opened it instead!
