For the past several years, St. Peter's Episcopal Church and the First United Methodist Church in Carson City have joined together to make their corner of Carson City a festive spot for holiday shopping.
Today's the day to experience double the crafts as the historic churches, just a block apart, open their doors for the annual joint Holiday Bazaar.
The bazaar and crafts fair make it easy for those looking for hand-crafted items made by local artisans for gifts and decorations to get the most variety with the least travel.
"The events take a lot of effort by the ladies of these churches, but we really enjoy creating things," said Kim Morgan, deacon and St. Peter's Bazaar Committee chairwoman.
As is customary, the Methodist Men will dish up their popular soup during the lunch hours.
• St. Peter's Christmas Bazaar opens at 8 a.m. It is located at 305 N. Minnesota St.
• The Methodist Church at 412 Musser St., will be open for its Christmas Bazaar from 9 a.m.-2 p.m.
The Episcopal and Methodist churches are not the only ones open for holiday craft shopping.
• St. Paul's Lutheran Church, on the other side of town, will hold it's Craftique Open House, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. St. Paul's is located at 1201 N. Saliman Road. The fair features handmade craft items and homemade goodies.
The craft fairs are fundraisers for each of the churches in support of their church and community programs.
Cookbook fundraiser
St. Peter's Episcopal Church parishioners have put together a cookbook of favorite recipes and table graces to raise funds for various projects.
"God, That's Good! Recipes & Reminiscences from St. Peter's Parish" was originally published five years ago and continues to be a popular item.
The cookbooks will be on sale for $5 at the Christmas Bazaar.
