Senator Square: Carson High organizations busy trying to help community

The Carson High Ski and Board team is putting on a double feature Dec. 11 at the Carson City Community Center. Tickets are $10 for both films bought in advance (from CHS ski/board team athletes) or $15 at the door.

CHS will be hosting an upcoming scavenger hunt 5:30-8 p.m. Tuesday. It is a popular annual event that includes a city-wide food scavenger hunt to benefit FISH.

The National Honor Society is sponsoring a coat drive, any good condition or new coat, hat or gloves can be brought to Ms. Province's room. Children's sizes are especially needed.

Operation Gratitude also is starting this next week. NHS is going to send selected items to service personnel overseas. Items will be shipped to military units by Dec. 10. Please consider donating to our troops. All donations can be brought to room 229 before Dec. 10. Thanks for your help.

NHS will be collecting Toys for Tots. There are drop-off bins in the attendance office and guidance office, along with bins in Ms. Province's and Ms. Glenn's rooms. The toys should be new, worth at least $10 and unwrapped.

Remember Black Friday is a great day to pick up some toys at a discounted price!

CHS has a gift-giving tree in the front office. It has been loaded with 53 children's names. The children listed are all local. Please wrap your gifts and have them returned to the school by Dec. 14. Please attach the tags to the gifts.

CHS is gearing up for its annual talent show. Auditions for talent show will be on Nov. 30, beginning at 2 p.m. in the upstairs cafeteria. Get your fun, creative and talented acts together and be sure to try out. The show will be at 7 p.m. Dec. 16 at the Carson Community Center. General admission will be $4, but only $3 for CHS students with a student body card. This is a fundraiser for the video and photo students, so please plan on coming to the show and and help support the programs.

The Reflections Contest is coming up and the theme is: "Beauty is ..." Students are encouraged to enter an original creation in one or more of the following categories: Visual Arts, Musical Composition, Literature, Photography, Dance Choreography and Film/Video Production. Applications are in the attendance office and are due Jan. 5. Winners are eligible to win $25, $50 or $100, so start thinking about what beauty is today!

All of us here at CHS want to wish the community a Happy Thanksgiving. Thank you for your support so far this year. There will no school on Thursday and Friday.
