The youth ministry of Freedom Church in Carson City will raise funds for their activities by selling Christmas trees. On Friday, Dec. 4, 200 trees will be delivered from Oregon for the lot in the Target shopping center on Topsy Lane. The lot will be open 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Monday-Friday and 8 a.m.-10 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
The LIFT Christmas Tree lot, in its third year but in a new location, is a non-profit run by volunteers and is the biggest fundraiser for the chuch youth ministry.
Volunteers will also provide free gift bags for all children who come to the tree lot, a photographer to take family photos, tree delivery service if needed, and free S'mores on Fridays. The lot is also the site for collecting stockings and stocking-stuffers to be given to students at Empire Elementary School.
Freedom Church is located at 3759 Highway 50 East #209 in Carson City. This year, church members are participating in an outreach program called "LIFT" with the goal this holiday season of feeding the hungry and blessing children of the community who are less fortunate.
Other LIFT projects include:
• A free gift-wrapping night 2-6 p.m. Dec. 12 at Freedom Church. Several gift wrappers will be on hand to wrap gifts, or people can do their own wrapping with the supplies provided by the church.
• A free Christmas dinner and movie will be shown on a big screen Dec. 15. The free community dinner is an ongoing event that takes place every Tuesday night at 7 p.m. and each week there is a new theme. Anyone in the community is welcome.
• Members are putting together 200 Christmas stockings for needy children in our community. Bring donations to the Lift Christmas Tree lot any day of the week or at Freedom Church on Sundays between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Stockings and stocking stuffers such as chapsticks, bouncy balls, hard candies, toy jewelry, racecars, small games, and anything else suited for kids 5-12 years are needed.
