Fern Phyllis Schreiner, passed away on October 3, 2009, at the age of 89. She was born on January 20, 1920, in Roseburg, Ore., to Leonard P. and Lillie Kate (Yoakum) Cain. She graduated from high school in Oakland, Ore., in 1937.
Fern distinguished herself as an exceptional bookkeeper within the lumber industry in Northern California and Oregon during the "lumber heyday" of the 1950s and 1960s.
Candy-making was a special talent of Fern's that the entire family always enjoyed during the holiday season, especially her fudge and divinity.
Fern was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Nick Schreiner. She is survived by her daughter, Kathalie (Thomas) Koche of Reno; grandson, Jason Smith of Phoenix, Ariz.; granddaughter Kimberly (Joe) Baseel of Elko and great-granddaughter Kathryn Graunke of Elko; sisters Lyndall (Bill) Herndon and Vivian Martin; sister-in-law Anna Marie Kraft and numerous nieces and nephews.
At Mom's request no services will be held. Fern's family would like to thank Dr. Christopher Forman, Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center oncology nursing staff and St. Mary's Hospice staff for their kind and special care in the final days of her life.
