VIRGINIA CITY - Musicians of the Comstock will get together Saturday for a benefit show, raffle and spaghetti dinner to aid Rick Hammel, bass player for the Comstock Cowboys, who is in need of a lung operation.

The spaghetti dinner starts at 6:30 p.m. and music at 7 p.m. at Piper's Opera House, 12 N. B St., Virginia City. Organizers have not set a ticket price, but are requesting donations. A raffle and silent auction also will be held to help pay for a deposit for the needed surgery.

Rick Hammel has played bass with the Comstock Cowboys since the early 1990s, performing all over the region. He needs surgery to repair his lung, but can't get it until he submits a monetary deposit. He has no insurance.

Hammel has lived in Silver City and worked in Virginia City as a musician for many years, performing with every local entertainer and many who passed through.

Musicians scheduled to perform include David John, Will Strickland, Bobby Kittle, Will Rose, guitarist Dale Poune, fiddler Doc Quam, pianists Squeek Steele and John Kirin, fiddler Jake Wise, the duo of Doug and Sundee, Norm Hoggart, and Linda Merrell.

Many others have been invited so it should be a great night of music to reach out and help a friend in need.
