The Carson High girl's basketball teams are looking forward to a substantial boost in their budget courtesy of a fundraiser offered by the Ford Motor Co.
Tim Milligan, manager of Capital Ford, said the company will have 10-15 vehicles at Carson High all day Saturday, Oct. 24. Every test drive taken by area residents that day will get the teams a $20 contribution from Ford.
He said the program can earn up to $6,000 if 300 people will turn out and test one of the vehicles.
Coach Todd Ackerman said that would be a huge boost to the $2,500 budget the school provides the freshman, junior varsity and varsity basketball teams.
"We have a couple of fundraisers we do but this is by far the biggest," he said.
Milligan said Ford has offered the Drive One 4 UR School program for a number of years, including this year despite the economy.
"We're just glad we're able to help the kids," he said.
The benefit to Capital Ford, he said, is getting potential buyers to try out one of their 2010 vehicles.
The fundraiser will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the north parking lot of Carson High, 1111 N. Saliman Road.
Participants must be at least 18 with a valid driver's license. Test drives are limited to one per household.
