It's been a good move for the Retired Senior Volunteer Program.

The local nonprofit, headed by Executive Director Janice R. Ayres, recently moved from its previous location where it had been for two years at the city's corporate yard on Butti Way to 2621 Northgate Lane, Suite 6.

"It wasn't good there," Ayres said. "People couldn't find us - volunteers or clients."

"It's easier for everyone here. There is more handicapped parking, more parking in general. The access to get in here is terrific," she said. "It's just more professional. The windows make it bright and sunny and we have 1,000 more square feet than we did before."

RSVP provides many programs for seniors such as exercise, Lifeline, transportation, pro bono law and respite for caretakers.

"We also recruit volunteers for the Sheriff's Office, FISH, the library and the health department," Ayres said. "There are about 300 groups we provide manpower to in addition to our direct services."

The new offices offer about 3,700 square feet to house the 11 RSVP employees and those they serve.

"About half our budget goes for services to Carson City residents, but we serve all rural areas of Northern Nevada with some statewide programs," she said.

"We're just glad to be here and we want everyone to know we are providing the same services as before," Ayres said.
