Elton Herbig, 96, a four-year resident of Carson City passed away Oct. 16, 2009 after a very long battle with cancer. He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio to Edmund and Stella Dotzaver,

Elton was preceded in death by his wife Ruth in 1998, son Edmund (Toady) in 2001 and son John in 2007, son-in-law Robert Kline in 2006.

He is survived by his daughters Carleen Kline, Lynda Shoemaker, son-in-law Fred Shoemaker, all of Carson City and sister Ruth Steinhard of Ohio; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Elton worked for over forty years in Ohio and California in the aeronautics industry from World War II bombers to the Stealth Bomber. He took great pride in his work and did it well.

But his love was music. In his young years, Elton played the trumpet. During the depression in the 30s his band "The Rythmateers" played in Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky. He was also known to run moonshine a few times to keep his band together. He lived in Palmdale, Calif. from 1972 -2005 when he was moved to Carson City to be close to family. His life was long and filled with exciting stories that will be missed.

The family extends a huge, heartfelt thank you to Mountain Springs Assisted Living, Director Marla and all the staff at Bristlecone House were so kind and caring and went way "Above and Beyond", and thank you to Michelle, sister Cyndie, Chaplain Dan and Ellen of St. Mary's Hospice and Dad's N.O.D.A. volunteer. You all treated Dad with compassion and respect; and treated his daughters to hugs and encouragements, we thank you.

No local service is planned. His wish was to be returned to Ohio and laid to rest with his Family.
