Leonard Russell Jevne

Leonard Russell Jevne, 88, a resident of Carson City, died Oct. 21, 2009 at Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center. He was born Dec. 18, 1920 to Gilbert and Bessie (Erickson) Jevne in Meridean, Wisconsin.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Franz, Kenneth, Orville No. 1, Orville No. 2, Gerald and sisters Freda, and Valborg.

Among his survivors are his loving wife of 38-years Sarah (Nichols) (Smith) Jevne, brothers George of EauClaire, Wis. and Byron (Muriel) of Madison, Wis. sister Irene Shager of Maplewood, Minn., daughter Rosalind (Stan) Hack of Mequon, Wis., sons Eric Moore, Nicholas and Russell Jevne and three grandchildren.

Leonard attended Meridean Grade School, Durand High School, and graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Madison with degrees in Business, Law and Accounting. After graduation he built houses in the Madison area until he retired in 1974. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, skiing, flying small planes, gambling, prospecting, traveling in our motor home and vacations in the Caribbean and Canada. He enjoyed fixing things and always had a project that he was working on.

He was a glider pilot in World War II, flying over eight missions at night behind enemy lines, including Normandy (D-Day), Holland, France and Germany.

He was a member of Midvale Lutheran Church, Madison, Wis., St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Middleton, Wis. and St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Carson City, Nev., where he served on the church council and was a member of the LEE group.

A memorial service will be 4:30 p.m., Sunday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church at 1201 N. Saliman Rd., Carson City. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your choice of: St. Paul's Lutheran Church, The Alzheimer's Association, Northern Nevada Branch or VistaCare Hospice. A Memorial service will also be 1 p.m., Nov. 6, 2009 Central Wisconsin Veterians Memorial Cemetery Chapel, King, Wis.
