Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., has announced federal funding for Nevada projects totaling more than $100 million.

The largest pot is the more than

$62 million in the defense authorization bill approved yesterday that will be spent in Nevada. Both Reid and Sen. John Ensign, R-Nev., voted for the bill.

The largest project in western Nevada is the

$11.45 million worth

of construction at the Fallon Naval Air Station. The work includes construction of a combined gym and fitness center.

Carson City's PCC Structurals will get a $3.25 million contract to clean up the waste stream created by the production of aerospace gas turbine components. Reid said it is important to find ways of recycling the materials used in that process.

OptiComp Corporation of Zephyr Cove will get a $2.5 million contract to develop micro-satellite applications for use in space.

In addition, the Nevada Air National Guard in Reno will get a new base fire station at Reno-Tahoe International Airport. The cost of the structure is $10.8 million.

Reid announced the appropriation of more than $46 million in economic recovery funding for Nevada for housing projects. The money will be used to create jobs building and rehabilitating houses for low-income families throughout the state.

"This money will continue our efforts to create and save jobs across the state while providing housing for Nevadans who really need it," he said.
