Cold weather on the way out

The taste of winter that blew into the Carson City area Tuesday is expected to taper off starting today with temperatures climbing to the 60s by Friday, said Brian O'Hara, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service.

Tuesday's cold front brought gusts of more than 50 mph with some snow flurries. As the cold front moves south, a high pressure system will move in, which should bring nicer weather, O'Hara said.

High temperatures today are expected to be in the mid-40s with wind gusts in the morning of about 10 to 15 mph. The thermometer will continue to climb Thursday into the mid-50s, peaking in the 60s for the weekend, O'Hara said.

"It'll be pretty nice after this taste of winter we just had," he said.

He said the next chance for colder and wetter weather is around Wednesday.
