Soroptimists host Stroke for Hope
Soroptimist International of Carson City and Great Basin Imaging invite golfers to the eighth annual Stroke to Help Fight Breast Cancer Golf Tournament today at Eagle Valley Golf Course.
Check-in time is 8 a.m. with a 9 a.m. shotgun start.
The entry fee is $80 for either the East or West course and includes green fee, golf cart and barbecue.
The event includes raffle prizes, contests, games and hole prizes.

Tortoise group to discuss adoptions
The Carson-Douglas Desert Tortoise Group will meet at 2 p.m. Oct. 3 at the Guest speak Cheryl Darnell from the Reno Desert Tortoise Adoption Club will talk about the legal issues of adoption of the endangered desert tortoise and hibernation.

Library offers virtual tour of center
The Carson City Library will host a free virtual tour of the comprehensive, online, investment database Morningstar Investment Research Center at 1 p.m. Wednesday.
Participants will learn the ins and outs of making informed investment decisions using this database that provides independent opinion and data on more than 30,000 stocks and mutual funds.
The training will be projected on the large screen in the auditorium of Carson City Library. The training session will provide needed skills for efficient, effective use of this database.
Patrons unable to come to the library can log on to the training session from any computer or laptop with access to a telephone and an Internet connection using a Carson City Library card. However, registration to participate is required by sending an e-mail to library

Speaker to discuss book at library
The Carson City Library will host author Vincenza Scarpaci at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the library auditorium.
Scarpaci's book, "The Journey of the Italians in America," has been selected by the National Organization of the Sons of Italy as one of its 2009 book club choices.
