Carson-area students win prizes in stamp contest

The U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service had announced the winners of the 2010 Nevada Federal Junior Duck Stamp Design Contest.

Vojtech Vinduska of Elko won Best of Show and will continue on to the 2010 National Junior Duck Stamp Design Contest April 23 in St. Paul, Minn.

Of the 462 Nevada student artists who submitted entries this year, 100 entries placed first, second, third, or honorable mention and will receive a ribbon and other prizes in recognition of their efforts.

Robby Easton, 14, a home-school student in Carson City, and Kelsey Blotter, 13, of Carson Valley Middle School, won first place in their age group.

Savannah Halow, 14, and Taylor Fruth, 13, both of Carson Valley Middle School, won second place in their age group.

James Vickers, 13, of Carson Valley Middle School, won third place in his age group.

Honorable mentions were awarded to Carter Olson, Nicole Jackson and Mikaela Camara of Pinon Hills Elementary School in Minden and Alex Tessmann, Brittany Laney, Cameron Nye, Carissa Swan, Christina Lufrano, Dominique Groffman, Freddy Mueller, Jade Bernhardt, Keatzia Aldana-Marales, Kevin Jameson, Matthew Christl, Ryker Been and Stephanie Trackman, all of Carson Valley Middle School in Gardnerville.
