Candace Stewart, author of "Welcome to Planet Alzheimer's" and a nature photographer, will be signing her book and discussing her photos during a reception at 5 p.m. April 7 at the Backseat Gallery, inside Comma Coffee at 312 S. Carson St.
Stewart is the April artist in the gallery. Appetizers will be served during the reception and beer and wine will be available.
Stewart has worked for 12 years with the elder population, especially those suffering with Alzheimer's disease and their families, the inspiration for her book.
She and her family moved to Gardnerville from Southern California in 2004. She was awestruck by the beautiful natural surroundings of their new home, and began taking pictures of the local landscape.
Whether it is the intoxicating lilacs in the spring, the snow-covered mountains in the winter, or the expansive vistas of Lake Tahoe anytime of the year, Stewart has tried to capture it in photographs.
