SPARKS - Carson High's girls track team placed fifth and the boys finished ninth at the Reed Rotary Invitational on Saturday at Reed High School.
The McQueen girls won the title with 124.75 points, while Reed 71, Damonte Ranch 62.75, Reed 49 and Carson 48 rounded out the top five. Dayton was 16th with 18 points.
McQueen won the boys title with 121 points, Capital 77, Spanish Springs 73, Elko 51 and Reed 50 rounded out the top five. Carson had 42.5 points. Dayton was 23rd with eight points, all from Kage Walker's second-place finish in the high jump.
The Carson girls were led by Katie McFarren, who took second in the 1,600 (5:30.78) and the 3,200 (12:12.66). April Shonnard was seventh in the 3,200 at 12:32.55 and Amber Karnofel was eighth in 12:42.46. Julianne King was eighth in the 400 with a 1:02.47. Kenzie Tillett was seventh in the 300 hurdles.
Carson's 800-meter relay squad was fourth in 1:52.17 and the 1,600-meter relay group was fourth in 4:21.45.
Dayton's Kathie Arias won the discus with a throw of 116-6 and placed second in the shot put with a heave of 35-7 1/4.
The highlight for the Carson boys was the 2-3-5 finish in the pole vault. Eric Garcia was second with a mark of 13-feet, Childers was next at 12 feet and Anthony Winder tied for fifth at 11 feet.
Richard Shroy finished sixth in the 1,600, clocking a 4:43.99, well behind Elko's Eric Sandall, who set a meet record with a 4:20.45. David McMasters finished seventh in the 800, clocking a 2:01.25.
Carson was fifth in the 1,600 relay, clocking a 3:40.98.
Sierra Lutheran's Wade Meddles took the 3,200 in 9:26.00 and was second in the 1,600 at 4:34.59.
Carson's boys placed in several frosh-soph events.
Taylor Bradshaw was third in the 400 with a 56.38, Andrew Johnson laced third in the long jump with a leap of 18-7 and Calvin Jones was eighth in the triple jump at 35-10 1/2. In the shot put, Nate Hazard was seventh at 41-2 while Jacob McClelland was eighth at 39-11.

DAYTON GIRLS SPLIT
Dayton split its Northern 3A doubleheader with visiting Truckee on Saturday afternoon.
Dayton won the opener
8-4 behind the 16-strikeout performance by Mackenzie Cole, who helped herself with a double. Natasha Wells hit two doubles for the Dust Devils.
In the second game, Truckee bolted to a big lead after two innings and coasted to the 15-7 win. Wells led Dayton with three hits, including a double and triple. Taylor Hayes added a triple and Cole went 3-for-4 with a double and triple.
