Jarrod Lopiccolo of Carson City will be honored as the Young Entrepreneur of the Year next month by the Nevada office of the U.S. Small Business Administration.
Lopiccolo is co-owner of Carson City-based Noble Studios, a Web and user interface design company that managed to grow during the recession.
Lopiccolo and his wife Season started the company in 2003 after graduating from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. They've grown their business from 10 clients to more than 400 with
12 full-time employees and 10 contractors - the majority of their employees from Nevada.
"We experienced a
70 percent growth last year over the previous year," Lopiccolo said. "So 2009 was in fact our best year yet, which is shocking in this type of economy."
Lopiccolo, 29, said the company managed to grow as a result of teamwork and looking for efficiencies, such as completing projects earlier.
Some of their projects include designing Web sites to programming and designing the user interface for the Nook, the e-reader sold by Barnes and Noble.
He said there are talks of expanding the business and opening a satellite office in San Francisco, a hotbed of business for the Web design studio.
He will receive his award in Las Vegas on May 3. The award is given to business owners who managed to grow and offer a successful product.
Nominations for the award are collected in the fall.
