Obituary: Richard Lee Fleckenstein

Richard Lee Fleckenstein passed away April 13, 2010, after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson's disease. Richard was born August 28, 1951, in Long Beach, Calif., to Betty and James Fleckenstein. He was a long-time resident of Carson City. He was a graduate of the University of Nevada, Reno with a bachelor of arts degree in history and an master's in public administration. He devoted his life to helping others.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents and his brother John. He is survived by Nancy, his wife of 38 years and his children: daughter Amy and husband Art Tarin of Bend, Ore.; son Andrew and wife Amber Fleckenstein of Mt. Vernon, Wash.; daughter Amanda and Ryan Brock of Reno; and daughter April Fleckenstein of Reno. He is also survived by his grandchildren Kaydee, Justin, Trevor, Jacob, William and Dylan. Richard was a great husband, father and "papa" and will be dearly missed by his family.

A private memorial will be held on April 17, 2010, for friends and family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, Church Street Station, P.O. Box 780, New York, NY 10008-0780. Arrangements are entrusted to the Walton Funeral Home, Reno.
