130 YEARS AGO

The Appeal stated the other day that catfish have been caught in Washoe Lake. The story was contradicted, so we suppose the story was fishy-fishy. Now a reporter for the Gazette says that the state fish commissioner has planted catfish in the lake and that the Chinese have found one, some nine inches long with the use of a seine (net) at the north end of the lake.

Friday, April 15 will be the earliest time to see Halley's Comet.

70 YEARS AGO

Spring fever days are here and lots of people are blaming it on the weather. At any other time of the year, their difficulty may be recognized for what it really is - the inability to get a good night's sleep. So, if you have a problem with springs, buy a new mattress...(Advertisement).

50 YEARS AGO

Carson councilmen will consider applicants for assistant city building inspector. Mayor Harley Carter said Everett Chapin had given him his 30-day notice and there is money available to pay a full-time man. Local applicants will be given consideration.

20 YEARS AGO

Two Carson High School students, David Gutzman (computer chess program) and Gary Todd (laser) were honored for their entries in the state science fair.

10 YEARS AGO

Carie Ostrander wins a $25,000 scholarship at the Boys & Girls Club of Western Nevada. At 12, Ostrander became a member of the Torch Club, which has an emphasis on community service.
