NNDA hosting major conference in May

The Northern Nevada Development Authority will host an exposition for the Institute of Environmental Sciences and Technology in Reno next month.

The exposition, ESTECH 2010, is focused on the clean room and controlled environment industry and will be held in the Atlantis Hotel and Convention Center from May 3-6.

The keynote speaker will be Tim Sands, the director of the Birck Nanotechnology Center at Purdue University.

Among the topics to be covered include clean room design and nanotechnology.

NNDA member and Washoe County resident Anne Marie Dixon, who is the former president of the IEST, helped bring the conference to Reno.

Carson contractor named to bank advisory board

Jeff Shaheen, the founding member of Shaheen Beauchamp Builders in Carson City, was named chairman of City National Bank's Northern Nevada Advisory Board, the bank announced last week.

Shaheen joined the advisory board in 2007. As chairman he will run each board meeting, assist with prospecting new referral business, offer product enhancement suggestions, provide input on the economy, take part in bank-sponsored functions, among other responsibilities.

He has lived in Northern Nevada for 40 years and received his general contracting license in 1995, three years before launching Shaheen Beauchamp Builders LLC.

He replaces Randy Kuckenmeister, who rotated off as chairman of the advisory board.

Carson Mall candle shop sold

Jolene Mily, the owner of Cherokee Scents Candle Co. LLC., has sold the business to Mona Coleman, the co-owner of the Wedding Emporium. Both businesses are in the Carson Mall.

Mily said her husband retired, and "I decided I would want to spend more time with him."

So she decided to sell her five-year-old candle shop. Coleman takes over May 1.

Mily said she and her husband plan to travel in their motor home this summer.

Antique and collectibles store opens

Serendipity's LTD., an antiques, collectibles and consignment store, will stage a grand opening celebration on Saturday.

Owners Mare Davis and Rob Morgan opened the store on March 27 at 1800 Highway 50 E., suite 2.

The co-owners were competitors in the online collectibles market, but decided to go into business together, Davis said.

"Oldies, but goodies," she said.

ACG of Nevada board members announced

The Nevada Chapter of American General Contractors named its 2010 officers and board of directors last week.

They are: Fred Reeder, president (Reno Tahoe Construction); Dave Backman, first vice president (K.G. Walters Construction Co.); and Matt Frazer, second vice president (PAR Electrical Contractors), Scott Hiatt, treasurer (A& K Earthmovers).

Reeder has chaired the AGC's Public Works Committee for several years and has been a member of the Labor Policy Committee. He has a bachelor's degree in engineering from the University of Nevada, Reno. He and his wife Robbie have been marred for 25 years and they have one grown daughter.

The Nevada Chapter AGC also named its 2009 directors: Bill Balsi (Valley Concrete Co., Inc.), Justin Ivory (A-1 Steel), Craig Holt (Sierra Nevada Construction), David Knaub (K7 Construction, Inc.), Eric Scolari (RHP Mechanical Systems), Kevin Weiske (Moody-Weiske Contractors), Sherri Key (Lindell's Painting), Brien McKenzie (McKenzie Construction, Inc.), Kyle Larkin (Granite Construction), and Lance Semenko (Q & D Construction), Vickie Francovich (Building Solutions), and Johnnie Stolz (Omboli Interiors)

Carson marketing group plan meeting

The Carson Area Marketing & PR Network (CAMPN) will hold its next meeting Wednesday, May 5, at 5:30 p.m. at the Marilyn Lewis State Farm office at 321 W. Winnie Lane (west of Hwy 395) in North Carson.

New members are welcome. The meeting is free.

CAMPN members gather monthly to network, and share marketing and public relations resources, ideas and tips. Members are professional marketers, marketing communicators and public relations executives.
