Carson Realtor earns

top honors in Nevada

Cheryl Evans, of Coldwell Banker Commercial Premier Brokers in Carson City, has been named Nevada's No. 1 commercial agent for 2010.

This is also the third year in a row that the Carson City office has earned the title of top office in Nevada.

Evans has been in the commercial property management industry for more than 25 years and specializes in commercial office, medical office, retail property management and leasing.

She earned her certified property management designation from the Institute of Real Estate Management in 2000 and holds a Nevada real estate license.

Prosthetic Consulting Technologies, LLC., a prosthetic company in Washoe Valley, has sponsored the Ability Celebration honoring wounded warriors disabled in the wars of Iraq and Afghanistan.

The celebration is hosted by the Disabled Sports USA Far West and is Tuesday through Saturday at Alpine Meadows.

The five-day event highlights the abilities of people with disabilities. The week starts with an Ability Camp for 25 solders who will receive instruction in adapted snow skiing and snowboarding at the Disabled Sports Program Center at Alpine Meadows Resort.

The Phil Bocks Memorial Ability Challenge ski race will be Friday. The celebration ends on Saturday with a fundraising event.

AGC names Nevada officers, directors for 2011

The Nevada Chapter of the Associated General Contractors of America named its 2011 officers and board of directors.

The new officers are: Dave Backman, president (K.G. Walters Construction Co.); Matt Frazer, first vice president (PAR Electrical Contractors); Scott Hiatt, second vice president (A& K Earthmovers); Craig Holt, treasurer (Sierra Nevada Construction).

"Serving as president of Nevada AGC will definitely be a highlight in my career," Backman said.

Backman has chaired AGC's Public Works Committee and Membership Committee and has served on the Labor Policy Committee and Safety Committee

Company relocates to Washoe Valley

Laco, Inc., has opened a 40,000-square-foot operation in Washoe County after moving from Livermore, Calif., the Northern Nevada Development Agency announced.

Tom Miller, of Miller Industrial Properties, brokered the deal. He's a member of the NNDA's commercial real estate committee.

Laco is a contract electronics manufacturer with a specialty in cable harnesses, assembly and sub assembly. They have 20 employees.

Economic indicators from the U.S. Commerce Department

Building permits in February 2011 were 517,000, down 8.2 percent from January and down 20.5 percent from February 2010.

Housing starts were 479,000 in February 2011, down 22.5 percent from the prior month and down 20.8 percent from the prior year.

BAWN hosting clay shoot

The Builders Association of Western Nevada is hosting a clay shoot 9 a.m. March 26 at the Carson City Gun Club.

Lunch and awards will follow the shoot, which is limited to 65 shooters.

Cost is $50, which includes lunch and 100 rounds of ammo.
