Army Sgt. Bryan P. Werlinger has returned to Fort Richardson, Alaska, after being deployed to Afghanistan for a year as a member of the 4th Airborne Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division.

He is the son of Lou and Elaine Werlinger of Carson City. He is a 1999 graduate of Carson High School and a 2002 graduate of Western Nevada College.

This was his third tour, two previous to Iraq.

Army Pvt. Christopher T. Mefford has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.

Mefford is a 2005 graduate of Carson High School, Carson City, Nev.

Army Pvt. Bryan Brandenburg has graduated from Basic Combat Training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission and received instruction and training exercises in drill and ceremonies, Army history, core values and traditions, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, rifle marksmanship, weapons use, map reading and land navigation, foot marches, armed and unarmed combat, and field maneuvers and tactics.

He is the son of Debbie and Charles Brandenburg of Rose Peak Road, Dayton, Nev.

Brandenburg is a 2008 graduate of Dayton High School.
