Herschel R. Woodard "Woody," 78, an 11-year Gardnerville resident, passed away April 2, 2010, in his home after a short illness.

He was born in Fort Smith Arkansas August 29, 1931. In his early years his family moved back and forth between Arkansas and California until settling in the San Joaquin Valley.  After returning from serving as a corporal in the Korean Conflict he met and married the love of his life Georgia Williams Woodard and moved to southern California where they lived for the next 40 years. During his career he received a 25-year safe driving award, which no Chevron driver has matched or exceeded since. In his retirement he enjoyed hunting and fishing especially with his brother and best friend Sherman Woodard Jr. "Bud."  He was an antique car enthusiast and enjoyed working with his hands. He would spend hours in his yards where he received many compliments from his neighbors on his beautiful landscaping. He was a strong and quiet man.

His was preceded in death by his mother Marie, stepfather Sherman, sisters Alta Fern Beesley, Anna Lou Reeves and twin sisters in infancy. He devoted his life to his family, wife Georgia; daughter Pam Shranko (husband Ron) and Kelly Woodard (Alan); son Guy Woodard; grandchildren Joshua Spring, Shellie Rood, Jeremy Shranko, and Guy Jr.; many nieces and nephews and one great-grandson; his brother "Bud" and his wife Barbara and so many long time friends. At his request no services were held.

Arrangements were handled by the Neptune Society. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
