Pleasure rides offered during cowboy festival

Horseback riders will see spectacular views of Carson Valley during the first Genoa Cowboy Poetry & Music Festival Pleasure Trail Ride on May 1. The ride begins at the Douglas County Fairgrounds at 10 a.m., head into the Pine Nut Mountains and return by lunch.

The trail ride will lead over flat and gently rolling, sandy terrain and on some dirt roads for about 8 miles.

Cost of the trail ride is $35 until April 16, when the price goes up to $45. Pre-register at www.genoacowboyfestival.com, the Town of Genoa, 782-8696, or the Carson Valley Arts Council, 782-8207. Sign-ups available at the fairgrounds on the day of the ride.

Riders receive T-shirts and lunch. Camping available at the fairgrounds April 29, April 30 and May 1 for $5 per day; horse accommodations available for $5-15 per day.
