RENO, Nev. (AP) - Nevada's basketball team has added another point guard to its new recruiting class.

Derrell Conner will have two years of eligibility remaining when he arrives in Reno in the fall. The 6-foot, 165-pounder played the last two seasons at Kankakee Community College in Illinois after helping win a state championship at East Chicago Central High in Indiana.

Nevada Coach David Carter said Monday that Conner is a "leader and a fierce competitor." He called him a "tough-minded player who can do a lot of things offensively from the point guard spot."

This past season Conner averaged 12.3 points, 4.8 assists and 1.8 steals per game. He shot 44 percent from the field, including 33 percent from three-point range, and made 80 percent of his free throws.
