Thanks for support at wine train fundraiser
Kiwanis of Sierra Nevada would like to thank Artisan's Cafe, Joanie's Creekside Deli & Catering, and L & L Hawaiian Barbecue for donating their specialty foods along with the 100 people who attended the Second Annual Mill's Park Wine Train fundraising event on July 23, 2010. Kiwanis of Sierra Nevada has donated $500 to Kiwanis House in Davis, Calif., where families can stay while a member of the family is receiving medical treatment at UC, Davis. Several Carson City families have stayed at the Kiwanis House. The club donated $250 to the Boy Scouts and $250 to Kiwanis of Dayton Township's caboose replacement project.

Abundant help provided after fire
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our neighbors for the great moral support they gave my wife and I when a tragic fire broke out at our house. Do to the immediate response of the fire department, our house was saved from being completely burned down. The fire chief, Red Cross workers, and paramedics were there to care for our physical needs. Most of all though, the love and compassion of our neighbor was something to be admired. We were given coffee and orange juice and toast to take care of our bodies, but the great love and concern our neighbors gave us, was food for the soul. Our insurance company was immediately notified and gave us money for food and supplies and lodging till our house is repaired. My wife and I will never forget the compassion of all those who were involved in our recovery from this tragic accident

Return of wallet renewed faith in folks
A couple of weeks ago, my husband lost his wallet at the Carson Valley Inn. We would like to give our heartfelt thanks to the folks that found it and turned it in. It's people like you that renew our faith in the fact there are good and honest folks like you. Again, thank you so much.

Turnout of support appreciated
The Hanke family would like to thank those who helped us during our time of need. On June 27, our house caught fire after spreading from our neighbor's house.
We would like to thank both the Carson City and Douglas County fire departments for the speed and carefulnees they executed in saving both of our houses.
Secondly, we would like to thank Sheriff Ken Furlong and officers Bob Guimont and Ben Veeter for their fast action and quick thinking. Furlong and Guimont were off duty and responded without hesitation. Both men entered the houses and searched for people and animals. We would also like to acknowledge Lee Ann Horton, the fire investigator.
Additionally, we would like to acknowledge a few of our neighbors who went above and beyond during this period: Steve Mackinder and David Morrow for bravely entering our house and rescuing our dogs; Fran and Lee Groat and Kathy Horton for contacting my mother at work when the fire broke out; Evalyn, Dana and Andy for providing us with electricity and space to store our freezer and refrigerator; Steve and Sam Mackinder for taking us in and providing us a place to make phone calls, shower and live until our insurance company came through; and Cody Bindley, Scott Paine, Alison Haney and Jaclyn Swearingen for looking for one of our dogs and providing moral support.
Lastly we would like to thank our neighborhood for the turnout of support. We appreciate you all.
