John E. Munnings 79, of Carson City died Aug. 7, 2010. He was born Sept. 12, 1930, in Baltimore, Md., to Edward and Katherine Munnings. He was preceded in death by wife, Doris M. D'Ascenzo Munnings. He is survived by his son Gene Munnings and wife Rowena Pogue; daughters Deborah Stewart and husband Dave, and Sandra Munning; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was a devoted father and part owner and store manager of Evergreen Gene's in Carson City.
He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War. John was also an accountant and controller for various companies in Baltimore. After retiring, he worked as a breakfast cook for McDonald's until his wife's death. He then moved to Carson City and worked at Odyssey Business Services for several years before helping his son open a retail garden center and later a gift shop in 2005. He enjoyed people and rarely missed a day at the store.
He will be missed by many people. A celebration of life will be held at 6 p.m. Friday Aug. 20 at the First United Methodist Church in Carson City.
John requested donations be sent to the American Cancer Society or the John E. Munnings memorial at the First United Methodist Church.
