Obituary: Ross D. Mitchell

Ross D. Mitchell was born to Thomas and Neva Mitchell in Puente, Calif., Aug. 10, 1924. He served in the 165th Army Infantry in Europe during World War II and upon returning home married his sweetheart Edith Louise.  Ross worked for the City of Glendale until his retirement. He moved with Edith to Carson City in 1985 from Glendale, Calif., where he joined the Carson City Elks, Methodist Church, Clampers-Julia C. Bulette Chapter, Ormsby Sportsmen's and many other organizations making and keeping many longtime friends.

Ross passed away quietly Jan. 13. 2010, at the Evergreen Rehabilitation Center. Ross is survived by his wife of 63 years, Edith; daughters and sons-in-law: Deborah and Gene Moore of Dayton and Marlene and Lee Bess of Paradise. Calif.; five grandchildren and their spouses Tom and Lu Ann Pillar, Brent Moore, Annathea and Ryan Vre Non, Michael Bess, and Travis and Amanda, Bess; four great-grandchildren Amelia and Thomas Pillar Allie and Brayden Bess.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 23, 2010, at the First United Methodist Church of Carson City on the northwest corner of Division at Musser. There will be a reception at the Elk's Lodge in Carson City following the service.

There will also be an interment service with military honors at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 25, 2010, at Lone Mountain Cemetery in Carson City in the veterans section.
