MOUND HOUSE - A man involved in a minor accident in Mound House on Wednesday morning was pronounced dead at the scene, possibly from an pre-existing medical condition, according to officials.
Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Chuck Allen said the victim was eastbound in a 1989 Chevy Caprice on Highway 50 East when he clipped the rear of an Audi sedan driven by Reynaldo Olivas, 57, of Mound House.
Olivas told officers the Chevy was traveling at a "high rate of speed" in the slow lane just after 10 a.m. When Olivas tried to get out of the way, the Chevy brushed his left rear bumper, causing minimal damage.
The Chevy then jumped the curb and traveled several hundred feet before stopping in the sagebrush on the south side of the highway just east of the NV50 Club.
When emergency crews arrived, the 66-year-old man from Silver City was in cardiac arrest. Paramedics worked for a half hour but were unable to revive him. He was pronounced dead at 10:42 a.m., said Trooper Chris Austin. His name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
Austin said the man sustained no visible injuries.
