A 62-year-old Dayton man was identified as the victim of a fatal accident Friday in Mound House in which one man was killed and another injured.

Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Sgt. Eddie Bowers said Steven Gonzales, of Dayton, was pronounced dead at Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno following the 4:15 p.m. accident on Highway 50 East just west of the Virginia City turnoff.

According to the Nevada Highway Patrol, Gonzales was westbound on Highway 50 East in a 2008 Toyota Sequoia minivan when he crossed the centerlane near Jeanette Drive and struck head on an eastbound 2000 Toyota pickup driven by Richard Gilden, 58, of Fallon. Gilden, who had to be cut from the wreckage, is recovering from his injuries, said Bowers.

Both men were taken from the scene by helicopter. The accident caused a delay in eastbound rush hour traffic for more than two hours.
