130 YEARS AGO

"D.C." Williamson, notorious nuisance, deadbeat and grizzly bear slayer, will not be tried for disturbing the peace until he has served out his sentence of twenty-five days in the county jail for pillaging doctors offices. The place for the man is unquestionably the asylum. Williamson it is said, was a would-be pirate, having been part of the crew that took Ashbury Harpend-ing's pirate craft into San Francisco Bay during the gloomy days of the rebellion. But before it was consummated, Williamson, with the remainder of the gang, was captured and sent to Alcatraz Island.

110 YEARS AGO

The Little Bonanza mine at Delphia has been newly fitted with machinery and is now running day and night with output of twelve tons of rock per day. Superintendent Everette was in town this week purchasing supplies and is much gratified with the success of his company.

80 YEARS AGO

Almost 25 years after the passing of the famous Bodie Miner newspaper, the town has a new paper, the Bodie Courier. At the helm is Charles Ray, coming to the town with many years experience in newspaper work in larger towns in California. The publication will be weekly and be printed at the Hawthorne News office.

50 YEARS AGO

Leona Fisher's 204 and Laurel Cooney's 556 led Team 1 to a series sweep over Team 5 in summer league Bowling Bags action this week. Emma Slade's 165-473 was high for the losers.

20 YEARS AGO

Nevada casinos raked in a record $4.91 billion in fiscal 1990. Taxable gross revenue was up 10.6 percent over the previous year.

10 YEARS AGO

Preservationists in Genoa are taking a new turn in their efforts to block a retail complex comprising a 12,000-square-foot structure with 10 hotel rooms and seven retail shops.
