Kaplan University 2010 graduates
Kaplan University celebrated the graduation of its summer 2010 class during
a live ceremony on Aug. 7 in Chicago. Harold Ford, Jr., a former U.S.
Representative, served as the keynote speaker.
The following local students were awarded degrees:
* Margaret Bills of Dayton, was awarded a Master of Science in Teacher
edducation.
* Chandra Bryan of Wellington, was awarded a Associate of Science in
Interdisciplinary Studies.
* Karen Melcherbalter of Carson City, was awarded a Associate of Applied
Science in Criminal Justice.
"Graduates like you must use your education and skill set to make this a
stronger, more vibrant and dynamic nation," Ford told the approximately 730
graduates in attendance. "It takes courage and determination to improve your
own life and the lives of those around you."
The Kaplan University summer 2010 class included more than 4,200 graduates.
Many of them traveled from around the country and the world to attend the
ceremony, meeting face-to-face for the first time. Kaplan University has
graduated nearly 27,000 online students since it began offering web-based
degrees in 2001.
Honors Society
Cody Hines of Gardnerville has been named to the Whitworth University
Laureate Society for fall semester 2010. Hines qualified for the academic
honors society by maintaining a grade point average of at least 3.75 during
the semester.
Founded in 1890, Whitworth is a private liberal arts university affiliated
with the Presbyterian Church (USA).
Dean¹s List
Nick Weitzel of Carson City has been placed on the dean¹s list at the
University of Nevada, Reno, College of Engineering program for work done in
the spring 2010 semester.
To be on the dean¹s list, students must earn a 3.75 GPA with a minimum of 12
credits towards a declared engineering or computer science degree.
