130 YEARS AGO

The prizes offered by the Miner's Union Picnic have not given satisfaction to the Merry Bowman of the Comstock and that club has decided not to compete in the event. The Carson Archery Club, ascertaining this fact, had a meeting last night and decided prizes not good enough for the Comstock archers weren't good enough for them, either. So the Robin Hoods also withdrew. The Caledonians offered a $50 prize for the clubs and now they will be content with nothing less. So, the clubs will probably meet for the championship of the state in a friendly tussle.

110 YEARS AGO

Ivy Baldwin, who made the first flight in Nevada at the carnival recently, has set a record for western flights covering 15 miles from an average height of 400 feet at Melrose, California. The machine used in this record flight was the same one used in this city.

80 YEARS AGO

The Bodie Athletic club is sponsoring a miner's celebration marking the rejuvenation of the ancient mining camp. The program will include old time drilling and mucking contests, street races, baseball and two dances.

50 YEARS AGO

Sunny Acres received an unexpected treat yesterday - the entire stock of Safeway's ice cream. Manager Ted Ellis preferred to send the stock to the children during the 29-hour power failure. A half ton of dry ice, a ton of regular ice and the supplemental power from the National Guard generator saved the rest of the frozen stock. Sunny Acres served the second National Guard generator, which held freezer temperature assured the home plenty of ice cream.

20 YEARS AGO

Plans to restore the old Douglas High School and turn it into a museum are finalized.

10 YEARS AGO

What the Carson High School Blue Thunder Marching Band doesn't have in size, it has in spirit. All practices must compete with other activities, as there is no band class this year.
