CHICAGO (AP) - Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews each scored his second goal of the game late in the third period Tuesday night to shut off a St. Louis Blues rally and send the Chicago Blackhawks to a 7-5 victory.
Kane scored on a rebound off a shot by Viktor Stalberg with 6:18 left to put the Blackhawks up 6-4 after they nearly let a 5-1 lead slip away in their first home game since going 4-2 on a road swing out West.
Toews then added his second power-play goal of the night about 2 minutes later to give Chicago a three-goal cushion on its way to a third straight win.
David Backes scored for St. Louis with 2:39 left, but the Blues couldn't come all the way back and lost their third consecutive game.
Red Wings 5, Sharks 3
SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) - Henrik Zetterberg batted a puck out of the air from the slot for one of his two goals that helped Detroit get a small token of revenge for last season's playoff elimination, beating San Jose.
Zetterberg added two assists on a night when the ice was far from its best because of a long power outage at HP Pavilion that forced both teams to cancel the morning skate and led to less-than-ideal conditions.
That didn't seem to bother the Red Wings, who also got goals from Pavel Datsyuk, Danny Cleary and Patrick Eaves to beat the Sharks in their first meeting since the playoffs in May.
Jimmy Howard made 25 saves to win for the 27th time in his last 33 regular-season starts. Datsyuk and Brian Rafalski also had two assists for Detroit, which has won four of five and leads the Western Conference with 34 points.
Dany Heatley, Benn Ferriero and Ryane Clowe scored for the Sharks.
Lightning 4, Maple Leafs 3, OT
TORONTO (AP) - Simon Gagne made an impressive return to the Tampa Bay lineup, scoring 1:15 into overtime against Toronto.
The star forward also provided a screen when Martin St. Louis tied the game with just 8.7 seconds left in regulation.
It was quite a night for Gagne, who had missed 18 games with a neck injury. The overtime winner came on a 2-on-1 rush with Brett Clark and was his first goal as a member of the Lightning.
St. Louis had two goals and Ryan Malone also scored for Tampa Bay.
Nikolai Kulemin scored twice and Kris Versteeg had the other goal for Toronto.
Predators 3, Coyotes 0
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Shea Weber and Cal O'Reilly each scored a power-play goal, and Pekka Rinne made 33 saves for his third shutout of the season in Nashville's victory over Phoenix.
Jordin Tootoo also scored into an empty net for the Predators, who snapped a four-game losing streak. It was Rinne's 17th career shutout.
After a seven-game winning streak, the Coyotes have lost two straight.
Thrashers 3, Avalanche 2, OT
DENVER (AP) - Anthony Stewart scored 1:49 into overtime and Atlanta beat Colorado to match a franchise record with its sixth straight victory.
Dustin Byfuglien and Rich Peverley added goals for the Thrashers, who also won six in a row in March 2009.
Ondrej Pavelec made 29 saves. By winning all six games during the streak, Pavelec broke the team record for consecutive wins by a goalie. Johan Hedberg (2009) and Pavelec had shared the mark at five.
During the winning streak, Pavelec has stopped 230 of 238 shots.
David Jones and Matt Duchene had third-period goals for Colorado. Peter Budaj stopped 28 shots for the Avalanche, who had their four-game home winning streak snapped.
